Functionally Equivalent BMP's
Not every stormwater BMP or device that Ecology approves for use must go through the TAPE program. Functionally equivalent BMPs or devices are approved for use to meet certain requirements in the Stormwater Management Manuals (Eastern and Western Washington). For example, alternative options for BMP C233 - Silt Fence, or BMP C235 - Straw Wattles.
Ecology's webpage Approved as Equivalent to Existing Technologies lists products and devices that have undergone this review process.
The Washington Stormwater Center helps Ecology with the review and evaluation of technology applications for functionally equivalent status.
This document contains further information on how to request that your product be considered as functionally equivalent.
