LID installations are rarely short-term solutions. Bioretention structures, permeable pavement installations, even rain barrels need looking after. Evaluation, Research, and Monitoring addresses how well these structures work--or don't work.

These evaluations link to a variety of objectives which include hydraulics, hydrology, water quality, toxicity, regulatory issues, implementation, cost, aesthetics, maintenance, longevity, risk, and public perception. Read literature reviews about LID effectiveness, modeling using the Western Washington Hydrology Model (WWHM3), and how to monitor for effectiveness. The Washington State Department of Ecology with its partners has developed a Regional Stormwater Monitoring Program.
