Mar. 23, 2018 Water Quality Policy 1-11

comment period extended to April 6th

We are extending the comment period for proposed revisions to Water Quality Policy 1-11. This guidance document describes how Ecology assesses water quality data for Washington’s waterbodies and makes listing decisions on the water quality status. This allows Washington to meet federal Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements under Sections 303(d) and 305(b).

We are accepting comments from the public on the proposed revisions to Water Quality Policy 1-11 until close of business on April 6, 2018.

Purpose of Water Quality Policy 1-11

Ecology periodically gathers and uses readily-available water quality data to list waterbodies that fall into different categories of water quality (from good to polluted). This process – and the lists it generates – is called Washington’s Water Quality Assessment.

Revision documents

The proposed revisions can be found on our Revising the Water Quality Assessment and Policy 1-11 webpage. We have also added supporting information to assist with review of the proposed revisions.

Additionally, you may request copies of documents from Susan Braley at: or 360-407-6414.

We held four public meetings to describe proposed changes to the policy document. If you missed them, you can view a recording of the presentation (caution: the file is large and may take some time to load).

Submitting written comments
