2020 MS4 Stormwater Needs Assessment Survey

The National Municipal Stormwater Alliance (NMSA) is asking MS4 stormwater program managers throughout the United States to participate in the Water Environment Federation Stormwater Institute's (WEF SWI) 2020 MS4 Stormwater Needs Assessment Survey

This survey is important. The results from this survey will provide critically significant data needed for stormwater to be included in the next ASCE Infrastructure Report Card (2021) FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. A good response rate from MS4 permittees will show that stormwater is a mature public infrastructure sector.

This year, NMSA is using a very brief landing page to enable us to track how many people we are directing to the WEF Survey. You will be asked for just five short bits of information, and then directed to the WEF Survey. We have teamed with an MS4/water quality software company, 2NDNATURE, who have generously provided the technical capacity for this function. The landing page is on their Web site.

The WEF survey should be filled out by MS4 program managers. WEF is looking for your best estimates for answers to the questions.

If you are with an entity with an MS4 permit (city, county, watershed, DOT, non-traditional, etc.), please have one person from your organization fill out the survey.

If you are a consultant and a city has authorized you to complete the survey, please do so. Otherwise, please pass this information along to your clients with MS4 permits.

If you are with another type of entity (regulator, researcher, NGO, manufacturer, etc.) but interested in everything related to the MS4 program, please feel free to provide us with the information requested on the landing page, but do not fill out the survey.

WEF did this survey for the first time back in 2018. If you are interested, the results from that first survey can be found here.
