Step 1 – Applicability

Here’s the language from the permit:

“Facilities that conduct any industrial activities in Table 1 shall apply for coverage if stormwater from the facility discharges to a surface water body, or to a storm sewer system that discharges to a surface waterbody. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) groups generally, but not always, associated with these activities are listed in Table 1.”

If your facility activities are not listed in Table 1, you still might be required to get this permit. The Department of Ecology uses the term “Significant Contributor of Pollutants” for any industry, business or activity that they think may be causing, or has the potential to cause, violations of any water quality standard. The department will notify you if this is the case for your business. If this happens and you need assistance, give us a call and we will walk you through the process.
