Presentation Spotlight: Engaging Communities Through the PRWC Small Grants Program

Presenters: Robby Wright, President, Puyallup River Watershed Council (PRWC) & Barbara Ann Smolko, Senior Planner, Pierce County Surface Water Management

The Puyallup River Watershed Council (PRWC) and Pierce County Surface Water Management have turned small grants into big impacts. In this engaging session, PRWC President Robby Wright and Barbara Ann Smolko will share how their collaborative Small Grants Program empowers local residents, teachers, nonprofits, and community groups to lead projects that improve water quality, restore habitats, and strengthen connections to the watershed.

Each year, the program awards up to $2,500 per project, distributing more than $22,000 annually to grassroots initiatives throughout the Puyallup-White River Watershed (WRIA 10) from Mount Rainier to Commencement Bay. These grants have funded native plantings, classroom education programs, stream cleanups, and community restoration efforts that bring people together in support of clean water and healthy ecosystems.

Join us for an exciting presentation with insights on how to engage your community in watershed health through a small grants program!
